Maintain Your Vehicle for Low Insurance Rates

October 28, 2015
Share:

To keep your insurance rates low, it is important to avoid accidents and keep a clean driving record. Other than practicing safe driving techniques, one of the most important things you can do to prevent accidents is to keep your car in top working condition. Many people are not aware that poor car maintenance plays a role in up to 5 percent of car accidents.

Poor maintenance can lead to parts failure, including tire blowouts, engine malfunctions, and other problems that can cause accidents. By properly maintaining your tires and your engine, you can do your part to prevent accidents and keep everyone safe on the road.

Tire Maintenance

To keep your tires in good condition:

  • Regularly check your tire pressure with a pressure gauge
  • Do not drive on tires with the incorrect pressure
  • Inspect the tread and sidewall of the tires for excessive wear
  • Properly align your wheels
  • Rotate your tires when needed

Failure to maintain your tires can be a very dangerous decision. Keep yourself and others on the road safe by making sure yours are in good condition.

Engine Maintenance

To keep your engine clean and working smoothly, it is important to maintain the oil level and to change oil per your manufacturer’s recommended guidelines. The benefits of oil changes are:

  • Contaminant removal. Over time, your oil collects contaminants that coagulate and form a thick sludge, coating your engine parts. This decreases gas mileage and lowers overall efficiency.
  • Maximized lubrication. An oil change helps minimize friction in the engine and prevents it from overheating.

A poorly maintained engine can stop working correctly with little to no warning. Regular oil changes and other mechanical work can keep your vehicle functional and safe.
